High Frequency Spinal Cord Stimulation (Nevro HF10™ therapy)

What is High Frequency Spinal Cord Stimulation?

Patients, physicians, and medical device companies are continuously trying to find non-narcotic solutions to chronic pain. Senza® SCS system, which delivers Nevro’s proprietary HF10™ therapy (Nevro Corporation, Menlo Park, CA) has been proven to provide more patients more relief in both back pain and leg pain compared with traditional spinal cord stimulation (SCS).1

A common side effect of most SCS therapies is a tingling or buzzing sensation, known as paresthesia. For many patients, this tingling masks their pain, but it is always present and can be distracting or even uncomfortable.

HF10 therapy helps to manage chronic pain without paresthesia

HF10 therapy uses a unique stimulation that effectively manages chronic pain without paresthesia. The system is unique in that it is capable of delivering higher rates of electrical pulses for spinal cord stimulation than any device currently available.

As a result, unlike traditional spinal cord stimulation systems, HF10 therapy will not give an unexpected shock while bending, twisting, engaging in other daily activities, and can stay activated during driving or sleeping. HF10 therapy can be switched ON and OFF via remote control at any time.

Similar to SCS, HF10 therapy provides the opportunity to trial the system prior to receiving a permanent implant. The purpose of the trial system is to deliver the same therapy provided by the implanted device, allowing you and your doctor to quickly assess its effectiveness in managing your pain.

During traditional SCS procedures, patients must be awakened to help their physicians locate the most beneficial position for the electrodes, which is not required during a procedure for HF10 therapy. The implant procedure for both the trial and the permanent device is fairly quick and minimally invasive, and can typically be completed in the same day without requiring a hospital stay.
