Jacob LaSalle is a double board-certified anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist. He earned his B.A. in premedical sciences and anthropology at Columbia University before completing his M.D. at the University of California, San Francisco.

I always try and remind patients of the importance of staying physically active, either through physical therapy or some form of exercise program. I think this is such a crucial component of recovery but also of maintenance – building the physical resilience to prevent the same problems from happening over and over again.
Trust. If a patient does not trust a provider to give the most beneficial and appropriate recommendations, then he or she will be less likely to commit to the recommended treatments. Conversely, if a physician doesn’t trust a patient, then he or she will not listen attentively to the patient and will be less likely to take each of the patient’s individual needs into account.
